the newleaf air was cool against swampflower's fur, digging through it and touching the skin beneath. the briskness of fit sent a pleased shiver down swampflower's spine. she loved the weather cragclan got from the coast, even if getting the herbs that only grew on the coast was difficult thanks to the cliffs. many cats had been lost here, young and old, and swampflower too had been taught to climb the cliffs with ease, else cragclan may lose their medicine cat and be without a healer. swampflower didn't like thinking about that, or losing any cat to the cliffs. no medicine would be able to heal a cat that had plunged down the cliffs. if any survived the fall, they would be mangled beyond redemption, and a deathberry would be their saviour, giving them a quick death and sending them on their way to starclan.
swampflower's mentor hadn't talked often of starclan. her mentor had chosen to believe more in the old gods. swampflower loved the old gods too but had had more experience with starclan. starclan helped her, gave her signs, showed her the way. cats she had never knew talked to her, as well as those she had lost. swampflower took in a breath, savouring the saltiness on the wind. the sea was calm today. she could see a large twoleg water monster on the horizon, but it was far enough away to not be a threat.
feet carefully guiding her, swampflower started to search for the herbs she had nearly run out of. she ran a list through her mind. it wasn't tansy. tansy was found closer to camp. lavender was found closer to camp too. it must have been catchweed she needed. it took her a brief moment to find it, it sticking to her fur before she had seen it. she harrumphed; at least it would be easier to find it like this. carefully, the she-cat picked it off her pelt and placed it between her jaws, careful to not bite into it too hard. it left a foul taste in her mouth that she would rather not have as it would last until moonhigh.
swampflower sighed, wishing for an apprentice. they would prove useful in these situations, freeing her up to do other things, such as being with her clan to ensure it anyone got sick, she could heal them before you could say iontas ar!
