new-leaf was beautiful; it definitely rung in the forest this year, the green leaves unfolding themselves from the harsher snows of ireland's last leaf-bare. dragonfire's steps were light as she exited the warrior's den, golden eyes catching in the sunlight and turning a more luminous shade. she was still a little sleepy, head groggy and eyes misty from a good night's rest, and she stumbled over her own paws with a fluffy, miffed pelt over to the fresh-kill pile.
she nearly stuck her nose in the pile to scent something to eat, but an acidic scent hit the air around her and she recoiled like a snake at the foulness. eyes wide, she looked a little closer, careful to keep her breath - and she found, at last, a rotten piece of crow-food. her nose was wrinkled, ears turned back in distaste at the sight of the vole's stomach crawling with maggots. without so much as a sigh, she took a deep inhale through her mouth to pick up the vole by the tiny hairless tail.
after she buried the body appropriately, dragonfire found her appetite was flattened by the mere sight of the rotted flesh and she knew that it was time for a new hunt, lead by herself this time. with a smile, the deputy entered the clearing and let out a sound, laced lightly with an authoritative tone, calling for those who wished to go on a hunting patrol that fine morning.
-- Dreams didn't usually bless the young apprentice, and it was no surprise when she woke up untouched by the magic windows to life that plagued the night. Rising to her paws, and stretching herself out, Doepaw sat down and began to smooth down her ruffled fur and lick bits of moss out of her medium-length pelt. Just as she was nearly finished with her usual morning grooming, Dragonfire's call for cats to join her on a hunting patrol pierced her ears. Looking up from her flank, the apprentice just blinked her baby blue doe eyes in a casual manner. She'd never exactly been a good hunter or anything like that, but maybe it would be a good excuse to find some herbs to bring back for the clan. Quickly finishing up her grooming, Doepaw hopped to her paws and slipped out of the apprentice's den.
Blinking her eyes to adjust to the change in lighting, the seven moon old dipped her head in respect to the warrior as she made her way across the clearing and towards Dragonfire. The cool and crisp air certainly woke her up quite a bit, and she couldn't help but smile, as she wasn't feel drowsy and exhausted as she had been feeling when she first woke up that morning. Flicking her tail, the apprentice let a small smile grace her dainty little maw as she searched for the proper words to use to speak to the warrior.
unfortunately, dragonfire is no longer a member :c but i will reply as if someone wanted to go on a patrol.
since the death of elderstar, elkheart realized timberclan was in for some major changes. truly, though, no one wanted to take the reigns of leader, as it seemed disrespectful after the death of both dragonfire and the only remaining cat from before clan era. originally a cat of bogclan, elkheart was drawn into timberclan's fight early on, confused and greatly unaware of the massive chaos the four clans found themselves in. brother against brother, friend against friend, the war no longer was one over territory or right, but of individual confusion. cats defended themselves inherently, no longer tied to a clan.
after the war was over, elkheart had grown so close to the timberclan cats that he chose to stay with them, leaving his friend and former lover, littlewolf. a hard decision for everyone, it rested unknowingly hard on elkheart's shoulders, simply because he was one of the few cats who survived the war. now trying to bring everyone back together, he took on the head role, even if timberclan no longer had a stable hierarchy system.
hearing the call for a patrol, elkheart raised himself off the stone he was resting on and padded forward, noticing little doepaw scampering past, eager to get in on the excitement. "alright," elkheart chuckled with a little mrrow of laughter. "you can come with me, and we'll catch the biggest starling for the rest of the cats, hm?" the bengal's sleek tail twisted back and forth eagerly. he nudged doepaw forward gently with his nose, thinking this a good training opportunity for the young cat.
