elderstar took a slight bite of the plump mouse between his paws. of course, elderstar had always been in tune with the earth.while his clan-mates saw him as soft and lacking common judgment, believing in the faith of their ancestors gave other cats power they never dreamed of. no longer were they tied to creatures and spirits they didn't know or visualize. finally their loved ones would be somewhere up high, watching over them. while elderstar believed in an afterlife, it was one of reincarnation, becoming reborn into a new body through an old soul. that's what gave him comfort, from the time he rose to the moon upon his back as he slept.

after he'd had his fill, elderstar stood and began to dig a hole, placing the remaining bits of his kill inside it before burying it daintily. he looked up at the setting sun and gave a great sigh, placing himself down on the ground. his lids lowered and he was suddenly still, listening to the sound of the wind and the voices of the spirits all around him.
