The sun was shining, at least as much as it did in leaf-bare, it didn’t seem to change the coldness of the weather, and a breeze tore though Sparrowkit’s short fur. He shivered but refused to allow it to deter him. He was a leader’s son, gosh darn it! He could handle just about anything if he wanted. And, he wanted everything.
Technically speaking, Sparrowkit did in fact want a lot of things. He was a kit, so he wanted his mother’s attention, her love and care, and he wanted the familiar company of his sister and brother tussling around next to him as he rested against the form which was Clovercloud. However, none of these cats were with him at the moment. He was alone, had ventured away, if only a little ways, again. He was still inside the nursery, ‘the nursery’ being the general area of wherever the queens of WindClan chose to make their place at any particular moment with their little ones in tow. He was on the edge. He liked that thought.
Tail and spine straight with his own self-confidence, Sparrowkit looked around the camp, observing everyone whom could be observed. He could hear them nearby, but he was ever the adventurer, and he wanted nothing to do with them. They were boring. They were things he saw everyday. He wanted to meet someone new.
[/b] he squeaked, stepping around his brother. The wind didn't bother him as much as it did Sparrowkit, since he had such long fur. He showed it off by shaking himself out, fluffing up his pelt so he looked a bit like a sheep. [/div][/ul][/blockquote]
Stumbling from the force of the shove, Sparrowkit’s non-descriptive mood suddenly turned into that of an angry badger. He mentally floundered initially, jaw dropping open, unable to process the completely unexpected aggression. Then, he set his jaw, understanding by now that his sibling could be a bit of a bully sometimes. This was just an example.
“Hey! What will Clovercloud say when she finds out you pushed me?”
He didn’t like to play tattletale, but that was all he could think of to say at the moment. This hadn’t been the first time he’d been called Tinykit, and it certainly wasn’t the first time and probably not the last time Cloudkit would try to establish dominance over Sparrowkit. Well, it wasn’t going to happen. He didn’t like the thought of getting busted for fighting with his brother, but, if that was what it took…
“Fine, I’ll go exploring with you, but only if you can catch me first!” With all of the speed he could muster, Sparrowkit launched into a sprint, running as fast as he could from Cloudkit, heading for the opposite side of the clearing. He steered away from the paths of all other cats, hoping not to bother them with his own troubles.
Because, believe Sparrowkit, Cloudkit was trouble. So was Sparrowkit when he wanted to be. It was just that Cloudkit was the mean kind of trouble. Sparrowkit? He was fun. He was a nice cat. He couldn’t wait to see the look on Cloudkit’s face when he realized he’d been beaten for once!
[/i][/s] Cloudkit's smirk morphed itself into a scowl, and he pushed his face closer to his brother's. "Clovercloud isn't going to find out I pushed you. Is she, Tinykit?" It wasn't a question so much as a threat, and Cloudkit curled his lip to expose his tiny little kit teeth to emphasize the threat. Sparrowkit might have been the oldest, but there was no way Cloudkit respected him. He was a skinny weakling who probably wouldn't survive the cold and hunger.
Sparrowkit's annoyance with him shifted into something mischievous. Cloudkit narrowed his eyes in confusion and irritation just before Sparrowkit spoke. “Fine, I’ll go exploring with you, but only if you can catch me first!” With that challenge, Sparrowkit darted off. Cloudkit growled angrily and chased after his brother. He mentally cursed his small legs; they were the reason he was the slowest between him and his siblings. The small tom skidded widely at the turns Sparrowkit made flawlessly, kicking up dust and earth into the pathways of the warriors. Some called after him, asking what he thought he was doing, but Cloudkit ignored them.
He sped up as much as he could until he reached Sparrowkit, on the very other side of the clearing from where they started from. The two almost collided from how fast Cloudkit was going. He didn't have the control over his speed that Sparrowkit seemed to have, and just knowing that much made Cloudkit steaming mad. He swiped at Sparrowkit with his claws sheathed, missing his brother by about an inch. "Never. Do that. Again." he growled between pants. [/div][/ul][/blockquote]
“Well, now that you’ve finally caught up with me,” Sparrowkit taunted, grinning slyly, “What are we going to do, then?”
He didn’t wait for an answer to start contemplating their possible options himself. They could search for whole new nooks and crannies in the camp which they’d never seen before, or they could introduce themselves to older cats whom they’d never met before, or…or…the biggest of them all, they could leave camp, and explore outside in WindClan territory! Wouldn’t that be amazing?
Oh, yes, it would, but it just wasn’t very likely. Chances were they’d be caught. There was a reason exploring outside of camp was a banned kit activity, it was dangerous. Sparrowkit, for all of his silliness, knew that well, but the danger simply seemed so far away. That was little ones for you; they had no sense of danger.
“I’m…” he began aloud, coming out of his thoughts, “I’m all ears for your ideas, Cloudkit!”
[/i] to be. Sparrowkit would rue the day he humiliated him. Cloudkit wasn't sure how he'd go about making the older kit regret it, but he would, make no mistake about that!
During Sparrowkit's silence, the fluffy young tom finally regained composure. When the other spoke up, asking for ideas, Cloudkit rolled his eyes. "So you spent all that time thinking but didn't come up with anything good. Somehow, I'm not surprised." he meowed, shaking his head. Looking around, he saw they were in the shadier part of the camp. The later on in the day, the more shadows would grow on this side of the camp. Maybe they could use that to their advantage. "Come on then, Tinykit. We'll try sneaking out through the gorse."
His eyes gleamed in barely hidden excitement at the thought of seeing their territory for the first time. He'd heard the warriors talking about it, of course, but seeing it with his own eyes would be the best! They'd see the Outlook Rock, the Twoleg Farm, and maybe even the gorge! The gorge was a dangerous place, he knew, but that just added to the appeal to it. If even the grownup cats were afraid of it, just think of how impressed they'd be if they heard they went all the way there and back again! [/div][/ul][/blockquote]
