"An Odd Way to Make a New Friend"
It was another bright morning, another day with a gentle breeze rolling across the fields and the sun shinning down on WindClan. The air was fresh and crisp, the light warm, the wind cool; just another great day, one with many of the warriors out hunting and many of the others out sunning or relaxing. This would have been a great day for a certain apprentice, as well, if he had actually woken up at a decent time.
Chalkpaw's ears flicked and he wrinkled his nose as the breeze swept by again. It wasn't uncommon for him to sleep in, since his internal clock was not the best of the lot and his sisters never bothered to wake him. This was one of the reasons he got into trouble so often, and didn't help the lazy reputation he had inherited from his mother. He was almost always late for training, late at learning, late at just about everything that had an average or set time to it. His blue eyes fluttered open, and he let out a yawn and stretched a bit, raising his head to look around.
Oh... Uh oh... He was definitely late. His eyes widened slightly as he looked around for any of the other apprentices or warriors. His sisters were definitely going to have a field day with teasing him, now. Maybe if he got up quickly and ran over to meet them, they wouldn't notice. After all, he had become much better at slipping in and out of groups, and wasn't really the first cat noticed in a group. The Javanese rose to his paws and tried to think about where the others would most likely be. If he wasn't too late, there were probably still some other cats by the fresh kill pile. He could just rush over there and pretend he had been eating breakfast.
The lanky tom took off in a run, hoping to catch up and let his absence go unnoticed. He was unfocused, heading in the general direction of the bramble bush without really trying to force his slightly-crossed eyes to stay more focused. Chalkpaw lowered his head and faced downward toward the ground, a force of habit he had picked up when he really tried to run at his highest possible speed. He thought that the less there was of him that wasn't level with his body, the faster he could run. Unfortunately, this also helped to further impair his already poor vision, he it was the combination of the rushing and lack of awareness that caused him to run right smack into another cat.
He tumbled over, probably knocking her back as well, dizzy from stumbling over as he tried to regather his surroundings.
"I'm so sorry," he meowed nervously, shaking his head as he looked over to see just who it was that he knocked back, "I was in a rush and I didn't even... I'm terribly sorry."words: 495
