the bitter winds nipped at his sleek coat as tallstar climbed up to outlook rock. buzzards circled the camp, their beady eyes gazing down at the snow-covered moor. in his mouth tallstar carried a depraved, emaciated kit, unable to make it through the winter. his mother lacked milk and no other queen could help, so the little one's soul rose to the heavens. one of the buzzards perched themselves atop a pine tree in the distance as the others landed on top of a dead willow's branch. starclan sends me a sign, tallstar mewed to himself. after padding a bit, he dropped the shriveled body in the snow, backing off as three buzzards swooped down and began ripping away the young one's flesh. the snow turned red and tallstar began to inhale the foul stench of blood. "starclan, have mercy on this little one. may his flesh be eaten by the holiest ones, and his blood drank by the spirit of the snow." he watched as the buzzards gulped flesh and the snow only reddened. unable to witness much more, tallstar turned and began heading back to the campsite.
as cats gathered to share tongues, he lept onto the tallrock. "all cats old enough to catch their own prey come forth!" his green eyes twinkled with sadness, but tallstar stayed strong. weakness couldn't be tolerated right now. if any cat found out the truth... well, he best not think about such horrors. as the moon rose high in the sky, the ruddy leader lifted his head. "the gathering is upon us!" he cried, more like a banshee than a cat. "it's time to gather ourselves and find comfort in other cats not like us." having really never been to a gathering before, tallstar wasn't prepared for what he might experience. "it is my first time as your leader, and i want us to be presentable." he nodded, sealing the deal for windclan "we are not to talk about our struggles, only our strengths. make positive remarks." perhaps lying was better than saying nothing at all.
he turned, tailed held high, and began the short distance towards fourtrees. who were the other leaders, he wondered. would the like him? would they respect him? did they know he was not quillfur? would they even care? tallstar did not know the answer to his own question, but starclan would guide him. their light led his life and his heart, and they would supply him with appropriate thoughts tonight. they had to; they just had to. windclan came first. it was the chosen clan.
it wasn't long before tallstar and the rest of his cats made it to the hollow. four gigantic oak trees loomed over him like giants. what an amazing place. he noticed four boulders, one at each tree, and realized the leaders positioned themselves there. tallstar turned to one of his warriors to ask where windclan stood. said warrior pointed to the farthest rock, and with a smile, tallstar bounded over and jumped, landing perfectly atop. let's see shadowclan do this! professionally, the ruddy cat wrapped his tail around his paws, awaiting thunderclan, riverclan, and shadowclan to join him tonight. what could go wrong?
